Michigan beat Western Michigan 13–12 on Saturday, September 5, 2026, with a 47-yard touchdown pass from Bryce Underwood to JJ Buchanan on the final play. Both schools’ official recaps confirm the result. Michigan had trailed 12–7 with 35 seconds remaining. Michigan Athletics · Western Michigan Athletics

The finish followed a replay review that restored one second. In a statement reproduced by Sports Illustrated, the Big Ten said a Western Michigan defender touched the preceding pass after jumping from out of bounds, stopping the clock before time expired. Michigan scored on the next play. Sports Illustrated: conference statements

Separately, users in r/Kalshi reported payout problems involving the game, including missing or zero payouts on Michigan positions. One person who said they held Western Michigan contracts reported receiving a payout, withdrawing it, and later seeing a negative balance. Other comments described updated positions alongside continuing delays in cash balances. These are customer accounts, not independently verified transaction records. There is a clearer public record of the current outcome: when we checked on September 6, Kalshi’s game market listed Michigan as “Yes” and Western Michigan as “No.” That agrees with the official final score. It does not, by itself, establish what happened to each customer’s balance earlier in the night. Kalshi’s market result

Our review did not establish the cause of the reported payout problems, the number of affected accounts, or whether every payout issue had been resolved. We could not independently verify a public Kalshi explanation of this incident in the sources reviewed. Calling it a confirmed technical failure—or claiming that everyone has been repaid—would go beyond the available evidence.

The practical distinction is between a game result, a contract’s determination, and the cash credited to an account. Kalshi’s own guidance directs readers to each market’s specific closing and payout information. A disputed finish makes those separate steps especially important to distinguish. Kalshi Help Center
